Background | Developing the schedule | Completing the Schedule | Standard Sub-Schedules | Carry Forward | Related Errors
The schedule is designed to act as a checklist or audit trail supporting the CFC summary schedule, if the user decides that a company does not qualify as a Controlled Foreign Company (CFC) because it satisfies one or more of the approved exemption criteria (and/or is not subject to a lower level of tax). The user is also able to maintain a log of the exemption reasons and add any necessary comments.
The schedule format is set to a working paper as it is not intended for submission to the Revenue.
The schedule may be developed for each potential CFC identified on the summary schedule, which meets one or more of the exemption provisions.
Some of the data entry cells are described in more detail:
Company name
This is completed from the data entry on the summary schedule.
Accounting period
This is a free text cell in which the accounting period for the CFC may be
entered.
Country of incorporation/Tax residence/Relevant percentage interest
The entries in these cells will override any information entered on the face
of the summary schedule.
The company is subject to a lower level of tax
The setting of the selector flag, 'Yes' or 'No' on the summary schedule will
be displayed. The user can enter the amount of tax paid in UK sterling, which
may be used to support the claim that the foreign company is not subject to
a lower tax rate.
Exemption reasons
A company may be exempted from CFC status if it satisfies one or more of the
exemption criteria (see the Revenue guidance notes for further details). The
user is required to set the selector flags for each applicable exclusion reason
and add any narrative supporting the decision made. The reason(s) will then
be transferred to the Exemption due (if any) column on the summary schedule.
This schedule rolls forward and connects back to the linked carried forward row on the CFC Summary schedule.
