Background

Notional intra-group transfers were introduced by Finance Act 2000 in relation to disposals after 31 March 2000 (TCGA 1992 s 171). This group matrix is designed to deal with the notional transfers of gains/losses intercompany once the File, Update routine is run, and the user is required to make adjustments in the underlying company transferor/transferee computations to reflect the notional asset transfers.

When underlying company files are linked into a Group module, any notional transfers should be dealt with on this schedule in the Group module. The underlying company files will then be updated automatically.

Developing the schedule

A new 'E'schedule can be developed in Group module for FY2001 from the A schedule (group summary), and is in the form of a matrix, showing the gains and losses before notional transfers.

Following the introduction of this new schedule, non-Abacus company schedules are now in the 'N' series.

Completing the schedule

Companies with chargeable gains are grouped under the corresponding heading on the left-hand side of the table; those companies containing losses are displayed in a separate column within the middle screen section. All gains and losses will be shown, regardless of whether or not they are involved in a notional transfer.

Entering a notional transfer

In order to effect a notional transfer, select the row for the transferor company, and using the data entry cells, enter in the column for the transferee the amount of the gain/loss to be transferred, with the sign reversed. Thus, for example, a gain to be transferred is entered as a negative number.

Updating the group companies

Selecting File, Link, Update companies in Group will then post these transfers onto the E schedule in the relevant underlying computations, and the remaining gain or loss after notional transfers for each company will also be displayed on the Group matrix.
