Background

This schedule will apply to qualifying ships and comprises a separate pool outside the general plant pool. There is some interaction with the general pool where the company can elect to transfer all or part of the balance of expenditure under CAA 2001 s 129 , or the ship is disposed of before it is brought into use

Developing the schedule

The schedule is developed from the C schedule, except in the case of a multi-trade computation, in which case it is developed from the Plant pool schedule of the appropriate trade.

Because of the potential interaction with the Plant pool schedule, this schedule will be automatically generated with the Ships allowances schedule.

Completing the schedule

The manner of granting capital allowances on ships is complex, and much is dependent on factors such as whether or not the ship is in use and the amount of allowances which you wish to claim (up to the maximum of 25% on a reducing balance). If the full amount of allowances is not claimed, these may be postponed for use in a later period. The schedule has a flag that allows the allowance rate to be set to 10% if apppropriate.

In order to provide for all possibilities, the user must provide details of whether the ship has been brought into use, the amount of allowances claimed and the amount of allowances postponed (if any) in respect of each ship owned at any time in the period. Additionally, the amount of previously postponed allowances utilised in the period must be entered in total.

The software provides a column on the schedule for the user to enter the TWDV of ships that are being transferred to the Tonnage tax frozen pool.

The system will then calculate the allowances to be given in the period, the balance of any postponed allowances to be carried forward, the TWDV to be carried forward for each ship and any balancing charges or allowances.

The user should note that on the disposal of ships not yet brought into use, certain adjustments may have to be made to current year/previous years' computations.

Note: The Row properties dialog is enabled on this schedule and may be useful when entering data.

Standard sub-schedules

There is one standard supporting schedule, Deferral of balancing charges, which is used for the tracking of balancing charges deferred on the disposal of a ship.
