Introduction

The Taxpack is generated based upon the schedules and links that exist in your current computation. You must have MS Excel installed on your computer in order to create a Taxpack.

There are only a limited number of exportable schedule types for an Excel Taxpack. If you have more detailed requirements then you may need to use one of our other data collection modules. Please contact us for further information.

Some computation schedules are "export only". This means their contents can be exported into a Taxpack, but not imported back into the Tax software. Any such schedules are identified on the Taxpack Contents page.

The Taxpack is exported by selecting Data> Taxpack > Export whilst you have open the computation from which you wish to create an Excel Taxpack.

This brings up a dialogue box containing a list of schedules available for export within that computation. Here you can select which schedules you would like to export into a particular Taxpack. You can create more than one Taxpack for a given computation, but each exportable schedule can only be exported into one Taxpack at any particular time.

At the foot of the dialogue box, there is a Template drop-down list. This allows you to select a standard template for the export (also see Creating a new template). The types of template available to you will vary. If you select the CP_TAXPACK template, a Taxpack file will be created. If you select the Backbone template, an Importer file will be created.

Having selected the schedules for export, you will be prompted to provide a name and location for the Excel Taxpack. Once this has been done the software will create the Taxpack within Excel based upon the schedule selection, links and data within the computation.

The progess of the Export will be displayed in the progress bar (bottom left of the screen). When completed you will be able to view the Taxpack within Excel (go to Data > Taxpack > Open, see below).

Export of cell values

Unformatted cell values are exported into the Taxpack. This is the cell value displayed within the edit bar (located at the bottom of your screen), rather than the formatted value, as displayed within the cell on spreadsheet.

Any formulae manually entered into your computation will need to begin with the '+' symbol for them to export correctly into the Taxpack. If you need to export dates, you must make sure that your machine is set to UK date settings (dd/mm/yyyy). This can be done by going to the control panel of your computer and selecting Regional settings > Date.

Finally, schedules containing any foreign currencies values are not supported by Taxpack, and are likely to cause errors on Export.

Undo schedule export

The export of a computation schedule to a Taxpack can be undone via Data > Taxpack > Undo Export. This displays a dialogue box, which lists all the current Taxpack files that were created from the current computation. The schedules contained within each Taxpack are also listed. From the dialog you can select the Taxpack for which you would like to undo export.

Please note that "Undo Export" works on a file basis, rather than a schedule by schedule basis. If you select to Undo a particular export, the whole Taxpack export is cancelled and the Excel file is deleted. It is not possible to undo the export of individual schedules.

OpenTaxpack

Once exported, you can open an Excel Taxpack from within the Tax software by selecting Data > Taxpack > Open. This option displays a dialogue box that lists all current Taxpacks associated with the current computation. From here select the Taxpack that you wish to open, and then click the Open button. Taxpack files can also be opened directly from within MS Excel.
