Introduction

The Taxpack comes with its own standard template which consists of the following sheets:

It is possible to create your own Taxpack template. This allows you to modify the content of the standard template as required, for example, changing the instruction sheet, or adding your own custom worksheets.

Creating a new template

A new template can be created from Tools > Taxpack > Create Template. This displays a dialogue box asking you to specify where to save the new template file. The new template file will then be automatially created and opened in Excel.

The Taxpack template is a standard Excel template file, and can be changed exactly as for any other Excel spreadsheets. However, it does contain a number of features that enable data to be loaded directly into the tax software. Please do not amend any of the following as it will prevent your Template from working correctly:

Note also that you should not overwrite or amend the standard Taxpack template. Any future changes to the standard Taxpack template will require you to create a new custom template and copy your changes across (see below).

Updating a custom template

After each release of a new version of the Tax application, it is likely that the standard template files have been updated. Changes will have been made in order to add new functionality, and also resolve any problems with the earlier versions. In order to make full use of this new functionality you will need to update any custom templates which you currently use to export Taxpack files. You will get an error on export if you attempt to use an out-of-date template file.

Here are some guidelines on how to update you custom templates:

Selecting a custom template

Any custom templates created by you will be available for selection on the Export dialog. To use a custom template created by someone else go to Tools > Taxpack > Export, and click on the Template drop-down. Select the Select New Template option, and navigate to the location where the desired template file is stored.
