Introduction

An Excel Taxpack can be imported by selecting Tools > Taxpack > Import from within the computation that you wish to import the data into.

A File Open dialog will then appear, allowing you to select the Excel Taxpack file (.xls file) you would like to import data from. This will then bring up a further dialogue box containing a list of the schedules available for import. Once you have selected the schedules, and clicked on Import, the software will automatically import the data directly into your computation. The status of an import is updated in the progress bar (bottom left of the screen).

Once data from a Taxpack schedule has been imported into a computation then that schedule will, once again, be available to be exported into a new Taxpack.

It is also possible to re-import data from the same Taxpack. When data from a schedule has already been imported into your computation the schedule will be indicated as "Already Imported" on the Import dialogue box. Hovering over the schedule name will bring up a tooltip displaying the username and timestamp for when it was previously imported. Select the schedule again, click Import, and the schedule will be re-imported.

Import of cell values

When you import values from the Taxpack into the Corporation tax software, the values are not placed directly into the cells, but are stored in a separate layer of each cell in the computation. This layer is called the DataAccess layer of the cell. You can display the layer by right-clicking the mouse whilst over the cell contents bar, and selecting DataAccess on the menu that appears.

The contents of the cell automatically default to the value held in the DataAccess layer. You cannot directly edit the DataAccess layer, however, you can still edit the cell contents in the normal way (click into the cell or press F2). If the value entered manually into the cell is different to the value in the DataAccess layer an error is trapped, and displayed on the status bar (bottom right of the screen) as a lightning bolt. This is a DataAccess error. A button is displayed to the right of all the offending cells, which allows you to resolve the DataAccess errors.

You can click on the button and it will toggle the value held in the cell, as follows: -

Therefore, where a DataAccess error is displayed on a cell imported from a Taxpack you will need to cycle through the possible values and select whichever is appropriate.

N.B. If neither the DataAccess value nor the cell value is correct it is possible to change the value as required. There are two options: -

Exceptions

As part of each Import, an Exceptions schedule (W_EXCEPTIONS) is generated. This schedule will outline any sheets that may not have imported correctly or completely. You should review any schedules which are flagged as Exceptions, ensuring that all figures have been imported from the Taxpack into the computation. If there is any missing data, this will have to be copied and pasted from the Taxpack into the computation manually.

Warning

The software will import data based upon the content and structure of your Taxpack. So if you have changed any of the areas required by the system to import the data in your Excel Taxpack file, then the data may not import correctly.
