Introduction

Taxpack is a major new area of functionality. It is an Excel Workbook intelligently mapped to a specific computation, which may be distributed, populated and reloaded into the tax computation.

Taxpack benefits the tax professional by allowing a significant proportion of the data required for a Tax computation to be supplied by users without specialised tax knowledge or training.

Functionality and Features

The Taxpack consists of a series of Worksheets as follows:

  • Cover page
  • Contents, instructions and help
  • Data sheets
  • Hidden system sheets
  • Data sheets in the Taxpack are a representation of the computation schedule within Excel, but without the detailed functionality of tax software. As such they can be completed by people who do not have the software.

Users can also insert additional Excel worksheets into the Taxpack, for example to help with freeform analysis and calculations, or to contain additional instructions or queries for the data provider. These will be freely editable but not connected to the tax computation software.

Following distribution of the Taxpack, for example by email, and population with data, it may be reimported into its matching computation. The user may specify exactly which sheets in the Taxpack are to be imported.

The export and import process may be repeated as many times as necessary, and multiple live Taxpacks are supported for any given computation, providing they each contain different schedules.

Taxpack schedules marked as "Export only" cannot import their data directly into the tax software. For any "Export only" schedules within your computation, you will need to copy and paste across any data entered into the corresponding Excel Taxpack sheets.

Once data from a Taxpack schedule has been imported into a computation then that schedule can be re-exported into a new Taxpack.

It is also possible to re-import data from the same Taxpack.

Other additional functionality includes, the ability to create custom templates, open and e-mail Taxpack files from directly within your computation.

    Requirements

Creation of the Taxpack requires both the tax software and Microsoft Excel to be installed.

Completion of the Taxpack requires Excel only.

Excel 97 and later versions are supported. Excel macros must be enabled in order for the Taxpack to function correctly.

    Warning:

The Taxpack itself is an Excel workbook and contains a number of specific features that enable data to be loaded directly into the tax software. In particular, please do not amend any of the following as it will prevent the workbook from functioning correctly:

The computation will export the unformatted cell values into the Excel Taxpack (i.e the cell values before any number, date or currency formatting has been applied).
