Certain function keys may be used as a shortcut to using the menu bar, and are described in more detail below.
The software contains a context-sensitive Windows help system invoked through pressing F1 at any time or choosing Help, Contents from the menu bar. The help system is sensitive to both context and the application being used.
F2 allows the user to make changes to the contents of a highlighted cell, which is equivalent to using the menu bar commands Edit, Edit cell.
Double-clicking on a cell or clicking once anywhere within the edit line in the bottom part of the screen will also make the cell editable.
CTRL SHIFT F2 - Sheet properties
Pressing the CTRL, SHIFT and F2 keys together invokes the sheet properties dialog box.
CTRL F2 - Row properties
Pressing the CTRL and F2 keys together invokes the row properties dialog box.
F3 - Edit source, note, query or response (only available in Risk module within the Accountants' market)
F3 allows the user to edit the source of the cell and allows notes, queries and reminders to be attached to a cell. This item is also available through the icon bar, or the menu option Edit, Source.
To find out more about notes, queries and reminders, see Entering data.
CTRL F3 - Expand/minimise prompt window
Pressing the CTRL key and F3 together expands and minimises the prompt window at the foot of the screen.
This key is for invoking special interactive recalculation routines required for certain schedules and computations. If a computation shows a recalculation error, the user will be asked to press the F4 key to recalculate the numbers. Alternatively the user could select Tools, Recalculate.
This key will display the Navigator. To find out more about the Navigator, click here.
F6 returns the user to the last schedule accessed so that successive use of F6 toggles you between two schedules.
There are two related icons, the left-facing arrow and the right-facing arrow, which allow you to navigate between all the schedules accessed. The left-facing arrow takes the user back through a series of schedules which have previously been displayed - first to the schedule last displayed, then to the one before that and so on. This option is also available through the Schedule, Last menu.
Shift F6 lists the schedules viewed in the open computations in order of most recent use.
To pick one, highlight it using the cursor keys and press Enter, or just double-click.
F7 recalculates the computation to find errors and, if any exist, takes the cursor to the next one. Error messages will arise when the system expects items or totals in different parts of the computation to be the same (i.e. to cross-refer), but the figures have been input so that they are still different. For instance, if 'administrative expenses' is being analysed and one of the items making up the total is omitted, the system will register an error. This is shown in red on the screen and F7 will move the cursor to each such successive error.
This option is also available through the Edit, Find, Error menu option, or by clicking on the Error button at the foot of the screen.
Shift F7 lists all cells which contain an error. The user may select and go to any item on the list by highlighting it and pressing return or by using the mouse.
The menu alternative for this operation is View, Error.
F8 produces a list of cells which are associated to the current cell. You can select and go directly to any of these cells using the mouse or by cursoring and pressing return. Cells described as parent are cells which depend on the current cell. Cells described as child affect the value of the current cell. The cell described as self is the current cell.
This option is also available on the icon bar and through the View, Links menu.
ALT F8 - Set/clear bookmarks
Pressing ALT and F8 together sets a bookmark in the current cell or clears a bookmark already set in the current cell.
CTRL SHIFT F8 - Move through bookmarks
Pressing CTRL, SHIFT and F8 together repeatedly, cycles through all bookmarks set.
SHIFT F8 - List bookmarks
Pressing SHIFT and F8 together provides a list of all bookmarks set in the current file.
CTRL ALT F8 - Super F8
Pressing CTRL, ALT and F8 on a cell will look up the calculation chain of the value and will jump to the cell at the top of the chain (either the original data entry cell or a cell where the value originated as a result of a calculation).
The equivalent right click menu item is Trace cell value.
F9 - Go to query (only available within Risk module for the Accountants' market)
F9 moves the cursor to the next query. This option is also available through:
SHIFT F9 - Lists (only available within Risk module for the Accountants' market)
Shift F9 lists all queries and goes to the one selected. The equivalent menu item is View, Queries.
F10 activates the menu bar.
F11 - Changed cells (only available within Risk module for the Accountants' market)
F11 is used in Review mode to go through the changed cells in turn. The equivalent menu item is Edit Find, Changed cells.
SHIFT F11 - Changes list (only available within Risk module for the Accountants' market)
Shift F11 lists all cells highlighted as changed and goes to the one selected. The equivalent menu option is View, Changes.
F12 provides system menu options under Windows. The first menu option Debug provides the most useful choices for the user, which includes About giving version information, Environment and Memory detailing memory utilisation.
